Perez Zeledon is a canton in the province of San Jose, whose limits extend to the provinces of Cartago, Limón and Puntarenas.
Its 1,905.51 km2 make it one of the largest cantons in Costa Rica and with its 142,000 habitants (according to demographic projections from the National Institute of Statistics and Census) it is also one of the most populated in the country.
It is a prosperous canton, favored by a variety of ecosystems that allow the development of productive activities of great importance for the Costa Rican economy, such as coffee and sugar cane crops and livestock.
Its economy has also been favored by tourism, in two main aspects: the visit to Cerro Chirripo, the highest point in Costa Rica, at 3820 meters above sea level, and a growing ecological tourism, privileged by the abundant presence of species of the flora and fauna.
